Your One Thing:

How God Has Wired You to Build

Dear Redeemer Family,

If you’ve been around Redeemer for even a little while, you’ve heard us talk about serving, belonging, and building together. But this year, I want to put one simple question before every Covenant Partner, every household, every friend who calls Redeemer home:

What’s your one thing? Discover by clicking here!

What Do We Mean By “One Thing”?

Your “one thing” is the unique way God has wired you to glorify Him and build up His people—alongside the covenant partners of Redeemer Church, in this season.

It’s not just a volunteer spot or a natural talent.
Your one thing is how you abide in Christ and partner with Him in God’s mission: fulfilling the Great Commission (making disciples) who live out the Great Commandment (loving God and loving neighbor). Sometimes your “one thing” expresses the love of Christ through practical care; sometimes it’s stepping boldly into disciple-making. Most often, it’s both.

At Redeemer, we want to help you discover, develop, and deploy your “one thing”—so you can glorify God by loving, serving, and multiplying alongside the church family.

Why “One Thing”? — A Biblical Vision

Throughout Scripture, God honors simplicity and focus—not scattered busyness, but a holy pursuit of what matters most.

The apostle Paul put it this way:

“But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
— Philippians 3:13–14

Jesus Himself commended Mary for sitting at His feet, saying, “One thing is necessary…” (Luke 10:42).

The Psalmist cries, “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life…” (Psalm 27:4).

Paul didn’t try to do everything. He found his “one thing”—the call God had given him for that season. He pressed into it, poured himself out for it, and let God use it to build up the church and reach the world.

Why Does It Matter?

Because when each of us brings our “one thing,”
— the church is built up,
— our sphere of influence is blessed,
— and the name of Jesus is glorified.

Paul tells the Corinthian church:

“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)

Every one of us has a gift. Every one of us has a purpose. Every one of us is needed.

This Year: Discover, Develop, Deploy

Here’s what I’m praying for every Covenant Partner in 2025–2026:

  • That you would discover your “one thing”—not by guessing, but by listening to the Spirit, reflecting on your wiring, and stepping forward in faith.

  • That Redeemer would be the primary place where you partner with the Lord to cultivate your gift, grow in it, and pour it out for God’s glory.

  • That this church would be filled, not just with volunteers, but with Kingdom Builders—men, women, and kids who know why they’re here and who they’re here for.

What’s Your Next Step?

If you’re not sure what your “one thing” is, that’s okay!
That’s why we’ve built the One Thing Discovery. It’s not a test—it’s a starting point. It will help you name your strengths, try new things, and let us encourage and coach you as you discover where you’re called to build.

Whether you’re new to serving, burned out, or ready to try something you’ve never done before—this year is for your joy.

Let’s build a church where every gift shines, every servant flourishes, and the glory goes to Jesus.
