Walk the Talk: They’re Watching
Family Friday #8
What do your kids see when you're not intentionally preaching a lesson or sharing a devotion? That's a big question—maybe even a bit uncomfortable—but it's also incredibly important. Your children are always watching, and the faith they observe in your daily life often speaks louder than your Sunday sermon.
Proverbs 22:6 offers timeless wisdom:
“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Notice that word "train." It implies intentionality, practice, and consistency—not merely words, but actions. It's about walking the talk every day, even (especially!) when you think no one's paying attention. The Apostle Paul echoes this when he confidently says, “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ” (1 Cor. 11:1). He knew that genuine discipleship isn’t merely taught; it's caught through authentic living.
Think about it: the grace you show under pressure, the prayers whispered when times are tough, your willingness to forgive quickly—these everyday moments become the loudest sermons your kids will ever hear. Your real-life example paints the clearest picture of Jesus they'll see.
Here in Wichita Falls, our homes have the power to shape entire generations simply by how we follow Jesus when life is challenging, ordinary, and even messy. When you extend grace after a long day, pray openly through trials, or trust Jesus in tough decisions, your kids notice. They’re learning what true faith looks like—authentic, gritty, and rooted in Christ’s steadfast love.
This week, intentionally let your children see you trust Jesus in one specific situation. Maybe it’s a financial worry, a tough day at work, or a relational struggle. Be real with them, not perfect—authentic, not polished. They'll notice, and it might just spark a lifelong desire to imitate your genuine, lived-out faith.
