To the Ends of the Earth: Scripture for Every Nation

Have you ever considered how remarkable it is that the same Hebrew and Greek words, penned millennia ago, are now read worldwide in countless languages? In Chapter I, Section 8 of our doctrinal statement, we see that God preserved His Word in its original texts—Hebrew for the Old Testament and Greek for the New Testament—so it could be “translated into all common tongues.” Why? Because God’s message of redemption through Jesus is for every tribe, tongue, and people.
Jesus’ Great Commission in Matthew 28:19–20 commands us to make disciples of all nations. But how can people follow Christ unless they know His teachings in a language they understand? That’s where biblical translation comes in. Over centuries, dedicated believers have labored so that communities around the world can read Scripture in their heart language. At Redeemer, we celebrate this reality: God’s Word isn’t locked away in ancient tongues but is accessible—whether you speak English, Spanish, Swahili, or something else entirely. It fulfills God’s design for the gospel to spread far beyond the original cultural context of ancient near east and the early church.
So, what does this mean for us at Redeemer? First, we trust God’s providential hand in preserving the text through generations, giving us reliable translations that we can study, preach, and memorize. Second, we see it as part of our mission to bring God’s Word to those who still wait for it. That might look like supporting Bible translation projects, or it might mean equipping missionaries who bring God’s truth to unreached people groups. Either way, the point is clear: God’s Word isn’t just for a select few; it’s for every nation.
On a local level, we strive to ensure that everyone—from seasoned Christians to curious newcomers—can grasp the life-changing message of Scripture. At Redeemer, we typically use the English Standard Version (ESV) because it follows a more word-for-word approach, aiming to preserve the original wording and structure. Nonetheless, whether it’s the ESV or another faithful translation, all Scripture is properly discerned through other Scripture and the Holy Spirit, the Author. Our heartbeat remains the same: point people to Jesus through His revealed Word. We believe Scripture is more than a historical document; it’s the living story of redemption that sets souls free, calling us to worship God and serve others.
“God’s Word reaches every corner—Redeemer carries it there.” That’s the core of our commitment. Next Tuesday, we’ll look at how this same Scripture interprets itself, guiding us when we come across tricky passages. Until then, be encouraged: the Bible in your hands is part of the Lord building His church, uniting believers across cultures in the unshakable hope of Christ.
