The Joy of Joining: What Signing the Covenant Means

Membership Monday #8

Is signing a form too formal for a church? Or does it really matter? It’s a fair question—especially when so many of us cringe at the idea of red tape. But at Redeemer, signing the Covenant Partnership Form is far from mere bureaucracy. We view it as a joyful milestone that clarifies who’s truly committed to living as a Gospel-Centered, Disciple-Making Family in this local body.

Think about other key relationships in life—marriage involves a defining moment of promise; employment comes with a signed offer letter; even lasting friendships can have those pivotal moments where you say, “I’m here for you, no matter what.” In a similar way, signing our Covenant Partnership Form is that defining “yes” to the Redeemer family. It’s a tangible way of saying, “I’m with you in this mission—count me in.”

Why is clarity so important? Because relationships thrive on it. Our covenant outlines a few critical points:

  • Praying for Each Other: We don’t just say we’ll pray; we truly commit to lifting one another up.

  • Handling Conflict Biblically: We pledge to follow Jesus’ teaching in resolving disagreements, protecting unity, and seeking restoration.

  • Serving and Growing Together: We stand shoulder to shoulder, whether it’s volunteering on a Sunday or joining a Gospel Community to deepen our relationships.

You might be thinking, “I already love this church—do I really need a signature to prove it?” But signing on the dotted line gives you and our leadership team a mutual reference point for accountability and encouragement. In many ways, it prevents miscommunication down the road. When we know exactly who’s “in,” we can shepherd more effectively, making sure everyone feels cared for and involved.

Here’s the next step if you’re at the signing stage: before you put pen to paper, pray through the “Covenant Partner’s Covenant” we provide. Ask God to prepare your heart for the beautiful (and sometimes challenging) reality of doing life in community. Then, when you’re ready, sign—and let’s celebrate! We love welcoming new Covenant Partners because it means another brother or sister wholeheartedly joining our pursuit of Jesus and His mission.

Remember, you’re not alone in this. Our entire leadership team is praying for you and cheering you on. We’re thrilled to officially welcome you into the family. Next Monday, we’ll talk about integrating your gifts—because membership at Redeemer isn’t a passive title; it’s about actively serving and contributing to the health of the church. We can’t wait to see how God uses you here!
