Plain as Day: Salvation for Redeemer’s Family
Theology Tuesday #8
Have you ever felt overwhelmed by a tough Bible passage—maybe some intricate prophecy or a challenging parable—and thought, “I’m not sure I’ll ever get this”? You’re not alone. While we acknowledge not everything in Scripture comes packaged in easy sound bites, our doctrinal statement (Chapter I, Section 7) reminds us that the core message of salvation is “plainly set forth.” And that is incredibly good news!
Think of Psalm 119:130: “The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.” Even if some passages require deeper study, the central truth—Christ’s redemptive work for sinners—is clear enough that anyone can grasp it. At Redeemer, we lean into this reality every time we gather for worship, preach the gospel, or study the Bible in smaller groups. We believe God has purposefully communicated His plan of salvation in ways both children and adults can understand. Sure, we’ll always have theological depth to explore, but the path to be made right with God is plain as day.
What does that look like in our church family? First, it means we don’t treat the Bible like a secret code only for academics or super-Christians. We encourage everyone—from longtime believers to brand-new seekers—to open Scripture and let the gospel shine. When we preach, we aim to be clear about how Jesus’ death and resurrection are the ultimate solution to our deepest problem: sin. When we hold Bible studies, we welcome questions and honest dialogue, trusting that the Spirit will illuminate hearts (Romans 10:17).
Second, we rely on biblical preaching and Christ-centered teaching to keep the main thing the main thing: Jesus saves. As complicated as life can be, God made the essentials of salvation straightforward. “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). That’s not a puzzle; it’s a promise. And no matter how uncertain our world becomes, that unchanging truth anchors us.
So yes, Scripture has depths that will keep us engaged for a lifetime, but the gospel message at its core stands accessible. “The Gospel’s light guides every soul at Redeemer.” That’s why we train our volunteers to share Christ with our kids, preach sermons that exalt His grace, and challenge every member to live and proclaim this good news.
Next Tuesday, we’ll explore how God not only made His Word plain on salvation but also ensures it’s preserved and brought to every tribe and tongue. Until then, take heart: the saving truth of Jesus isn’t buried in obscurity; it’s lit up like a lighthouse, inviting every single one of us to come, believe, and be changed.
