Grace Over Law: Rest by Faith

Sabbath Saturday #7

Have you ever caught yourself feeling like you have to earn God’s love or approval? It’s exhausting, isn’t it? The checklist never ends: pray more, serve more, try harder. But Jesus came to put an end to that endless striving.

Ephesians 2:8–9 sets us free with one powerful truth:

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

Notice the emphasis: grace, not works; faith, not effort. God’s favor isn’t something we achieve—it’s something we freely receive through trust in Jesus.

Last week, we saw Jesus seated victoriously at the right hand of God, having finished the work of salvation. Today, we’re invited to rest in that finished work by simply trusting Him. There are no hoops left to jump through, no demands to meet, no extra points to earn. Jesus accomplished everything necessary, and now He offers you the beautiful gift of resting in His grace.

At Redeemer, we believe resting in Jesus is life-changing. When you truly grasp that God’s love for you isn’t dependent on how perfectly you keep the rules, it transforms your heart. It brings freedom, joy, and a deep rest that prepares your soul for genuine worship.

Today, pick one “should” you’ve placed on yourself—one thing you believe you must do to earn God’s favor—and consciously let it go. Instead, trust Jesus. Trust that He’s already secured your acceptance, forgiveness, and peace.

Tomorrow, gather with your Redeemer family and let your voice rise in worship—not from duty, but from delight, because Jesus freely gives rest through grace.
