The Aroma of Christ: Smelling Like Jesus
Together Thursday #12
Ever noticed how certain scents linger, leaving behind a vivid memory or feeling? Coffee brewing, fresh rain, or a loved one’s perfume can immediately bring someone to mind. It makes you wonder: what scent lingers after you’ve left the room?
The Apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 2:15, “For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.” In other words, as followers of Jesus, our lives carry His fragrance—an aroma of grace, truth, and redemption that fills every space we enter.
Gospel Communities at Redeemer help us become intentional carriers of this aroma. Each week, as we unpack Sunday’s truths together, we don’t just talk about Jesus—we learn to embody His love and character. When we listen compassionately, forgive generously, and serve sacrificially, we become living reminders of Christ’s presence and power. This aroma will inevitably draw some people in, and others may find it challenging, but one thing is certain: it always points people back to Jesus.
What scent do we leave behind after our GC gatherings, or even our casual interactions at work or home? Is it the unmistakable fragrance of humility, kindness, patience, and love? The beauty of being part of a Gospel Community is that we help each other become more and more like Jesus. Together, our lives become a sweet and powerful fragrance, leaving no doubt that Christ has been in our midst.
Takeaway:
This week, ask your Gospel Community: “How can we better reflect the aroma of Christ in our daily lives?” Encourage honest, practical discussion, and then commit to carrying Jesus into every room you enter.
Jesus changes everything—let’s carry Him with us wherever we go.
