Serving Together: Using Your Gifts in the Redeemer Family
Membership Monday #9
So, you’ve signed the Covenant Partnership Form—or maybe you’re just one step away. Now what? The next exciting step is serving! One of the beautiful truths in Scripture is that every believer has been given gifts to help build up the church (see 1 Corinthians 12:4–7). Perhaps you’re outgoing and love greeting people, or maybe you’re tech-savvy and want to run slides or sound. Some of you have a passion for leading children’s ministry, while others find joy in setting up and tidying behind the scenes. Whatever your talents, there’s a place for you at Redeemer.
Why is serving so vital? Because when we all contribute our gifts, the entire church flourishes. Instead of a few people juggling everything, we have a healthy, diverse family each doing their part. This not only lightens the load, it also amplifies the gospel. When newcomers step into a well-organized, welcoming environment—or when they see various team members using their God-given skills—Jesus is honored. And beyond the practical benefits, serving is a spiritual exercise that often deepens our faith. As Ephesians 4:16 puts it, the body “builds itself up in love” as each part does its work. You may discover new spiritual muscles you didn’t know you had!
Some folks worry that they don’t have enough time or that their gifts aren’t impressive. But God isn’t looking for celebrity talent; He’s looking for faithful hearts. Think about the disciples—fishermen, a tax collector, regular people—yet each played a unique part in spreading the gospel. Don’t underestimate how God can use even small acts of service to bless others. Maybe you start by helping once a month as a door greeter or assisting with simple administrative tasks. Often, when we serve in small ways, God uses those moments to grow us, forming deeper relationships and showing us more of His power in community.
Ready to jump in? Fill out this form now and we will get you started or stop by our “Next Steps” table on Sunday. You can sign up for a role that fits your personality or skill set. It’s perfectly okay to start small—try one Sunday on the hospitality team or helping with children’s check-in. You might be surprised at how much joy you find in using your gifts to serve the body of Christ.
Remember, service in the local church isn’t a chore; it’s a privilege. We get to partner with God and each other, shining the light of Jesus in practical ways. Next Monday, we’ll explore our annual re-covenant process—why we reaffirm membership each year and how that keeps our church family aligned and joyful in mission. Until then, consider where God might be nudging you to serve. We’re excited to see how He’ll use you here!
