Making Much of Jesus: Redeemer’s Foundation
(Theology Tuesday #1)
Have you ever wondered why we talk so much about “making much of Jesus”? It’s not just a slogan at Redeemer; it’s the core conviction that shapes everything we do—from Sunday worship to midweek gatherings, from serving one another to reaching those far from God. Simply put, Scripture reveals that Jesus Christ stands at the heart of God’s eternal plan: He is the Mediator between God and mankind, the One who redeems us and unites us in a new family of believers.
If you skim through the big story of the Bible—Creation, Fall, Salvation, and Consummation—you see how God’s nature (the Trinity) and His redemptive purpose revolve around Christ. God created all things good, and even when humanity fell into sin through Adam’s disobedience, He graciously established a plan to save us by sending His own Son. Jesus, fully God and fully man, lived in perfect obedience, died to pay for our sins, rose again in victory, and now intercedes for believers. As the “go-between” who reconciles us to God, Jesus secures forgiveness and eternal life for everyone who trusts Him by faith alone.
What does that mean for us at Redeemer? First, it means we cling to Scripture—we believe God gave us His inspired and infallible Word to unveil who He is, what He’s done, and how we should live in response. Natural revelation (the beauty of creation) can stir our hearts, but it doesn’t fully show us our desperate need for a Savior. Only the Scriptures point us clearly to Christ, revealing His sacrifice on the cross and His call to follow Him in faith, holiness, and hope.
Second, it means we see the Church—both universal and local—as a treasured family of families. We gather under Christ’s headship, practice the sacraments He ordained (baptism and the Lord’s Supper), and spur one another on to love and good deeds. We discipline lovingly when necessary, always aiming to restore, never to condemn. Above all, we fix our eyes on Jesus (Heb. 12:2), trusting Him to complete the mission, where He builds His Church to the ends of the earth, ushering in a renewed creation forever and ever.
Because of this glorious reality, we can’t help but go “to the ends of the earth,” proclaiming salvation in Christ. At Redeemer, we make much of Jesus—Scripture’s truth fuels our mission. Whether you’re new in faith or a longtime believer, we invite you to join us in this Christ-centered journey. Each Tuesday, we’ll dive deeper into the doctrines that ground our confidence and shape our worship. Buckle up for next week, when we explore why God’s Word is our rock-solid foundation for life and salvation. We’re excited to walk this theological road with you!
