Love in Action: Living the ‘One Anothers’
Together Thursday #5
What does love look like with boots on?
It's easy to talk about love, forgiveness, or encouragement in theory. But when life gets messy—when we’re tired, hurting, or feeling let down—how do those words become actions? At Redeemer, Gospel Communities (GCs) are where we put boots on love, moving beyond the surface to genuinely care for one another, week in and week out.
Jesus says in John 13:35, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” Notice He didn’t say people will recognize us by perfect theology, impressive buildings, or flawless worship services. Those can be wonderful, but the true marker of His followers is how we love each other practically, consistently, and sacrificially.
In a GC, this love might look like a meal dropped off when someone’s exhausted by a new baby. It might be a text that arrives at the exact moment someone’s feeling forgotten. It’s choosing to forgive instead of holding grudges, or gently speaking truth when it’d be easier to avoid tough conversations. It’s about encouragement that goes beyond shallow compliments, intentionally pointing others back to Jesus and His promises.
Let’s be clear: living out these “one anothers” isn’t always neat. Sometimes love gets muddy. We misunderstand, hurt feelings arise, and frustrations happen. But Gospel Community means we don’t bail when things get messy. Instead, we lean in, practicing grace, humility, and genuine forgiveness—just like Jesus does for us.
The beauty is, as we put love into action, something powerful happens. Others begin to see Jesus more clearly—not because we’re perfect, but because His love shines brightest in our imperfections and in our willingness to care deeply anyway. This kind of love doesn’t just stay within our walls; it spills out into neighborhoods, workplaces, and friendships, showing Wichita Falls what Jesus is really like.
Takeaway:
This week, put boots on your love—actively encourage someone in your GC. It could be a thoughtful text, a practical gesture, or simply reminding them they’re loved and valued.
Jesus loved us first, perfectly and unconditionally. Now it’s our turn. Let’s show that love, not just in words but in the real, daily moments of life. After all, it’s by our love that others will know we belong to Him.
