His Glory Alone: Why We Exalt Him
Worship Wednesday #5
Have you ever caught yourself thinking, “What do I get out of worship?” In our consumer-driven world, it’s easy to slip into that mindset. But at Redeemer, we’re reminded that true worship isn’t just about receiving—it’s primarily about exalting Jesus for who He is. That’s why we say worship is “a response to God’s glory,” echoing the call in Hebrews 13:15: “Through Him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God.”
Why God’s Glory Alone?
Because He is worthy—full stop. It’s not that we gain nothing; in fact, we often walk away encouraged, strengthened, and assured of His grace. But the central focus remains Jesus’ greatness, not our own gain. A Gospel-Centered church like ours places Christ at the center of our singing, praying, and preaching, reminding everyone: “We’re here for His glory, not ours.”
Eschatology may sound like a big word, but it simply means the study of “last things” or the future God has promised. We hold that Christ’s reign is currently being extended—He’s actively building His Kingdom through the Church. When we gather each week, we aren’t merely enjoying music or fellowship; we’re joining a global chorus that magnifies Jesus’ reign. Our worship echoes across time and space, participating in the expansion of His rule, just as the mustard seed grows into a large tree (Matthew 13:31–32).
Key Line: “We lift His name—His glory fills the earth.”
So what does that look like practically? Each Sunday, we come together and sing about the cross, the empty tomb, and Jesus’ ongoing work among us. We raise hands, bow down, or quietly reflect—not because of tradition, but to magnify the Lord of lords. It’s not about how it makes us feel (though heartfelt worship often refreshes us); it’s about proclaiming that He is King over all. This perspective frees us from performance-driven religion and points us to a bigger narrative: God is uniting hearts under Christ’s banner.
Call to Action:
As you step into worship next time, try shifting your mindset from “What am I receiving?” to “How can I exalt Jesus?” Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you it’s not about your preferences or comfort, but His glory.
Final Encouragement:
Worship anchored in God’s glory sparks life change. When His greatness captivates us, we naturally carry His name beyond Sunday—living as witnesses of the Gospel wherever we go. That’s how His glory floods the earth, one worshipping heart at a time. So come ready to lift His name, confident that He’s using our praise to make His reign known in Wichita Falls and beyond.
