Keep Going: Faith Through the Long Haul
Family Friday #11
Ever wonder if your efforts at home are making a difference? Maybe you've prayed daily, taught diligently, and modeled faithfully, but your kids don’t seem to be "getting it" quite yet. Here's an encouraging truth: spiritual growth often looks less like an instant garden and more like patient, steady farming.
1 Corinthians 3:6 offers comfort and clarity:
“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth.”
Paul reminds us that our role as parents is to faithfully plant seeds of faith, water them through ongoing discipleship, and then trust God to produce the growth. This means that even when progress seems slow—or nonexistent—we don't lose heart. Your job isn't to control the outcome; your job is to faithfully cultivate the soil and plant the seeds. God alone brings the harvest, in His perfect timing.
At Redeemer, we celebrate this beautiful rhythm. We recognize that discipleship at home is a marathon, not a sprint. Every prayer spoken, every conversation shared, every Scripture discussed, every moment of grace demonstrated—these are seeds that God can and will use. Remember, the Holy Spirit often works quietly, patiently, invisibly beneath the surface before visible fruit appears.
Don’t measure success by immediate results or momentary setbacks. Instead, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, who promises to faithfully finish what He starts. Trust His sovereign timing, knowing that no act of faithful parenting is wasted. Seeds sown today may bloom long after your initial planting.
This week, commit to persevering in prayer for your kids. Pray boldly for their hearts, pray consistently for their faith, and pray expectantly for their growth. Even when it’s challenging, trust that your Heavenly Father is working powerfully beneath the surface.
Keep planting, keep watering—God is faithfully at work.
