Called to Lead: Parents as God’s Plan A
Family Friday #1
Think about God’s good design. The people who love their children more deeply than anyone else—moms and dads—are the ones He specifically entrusted with delivering the greatest news in the history of humanity: the gospel of Jesus Christ. Isn’t that incredible? God carefully planned that the people most invested in a child's wellbeing and growth would be the ones to teach them about His endless love and grace.
Deuteronomy 6:7 captures this beautifully:
“You shall teach [God’s words] diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise.”
Notice God didn’t call parents simply to schedule occasional faith conversations or delegate spiritual instruction entirely to pastors or youth leaders. Instead, He envisioned homes where the truths of Scripture naturally permeate everyday moments—during breakfast, car rides, chores, and bedtime routines.
At Redeemer, we deeply value this vision because we recognize the unique influence parents have. You’re there for the joyful milestones and the hard questions, the moments of triumph and those late-night conversations filled with doubts. You see your kids at their most honest, and because of your profound love, your voice carries a special weight. This isn’t about minimizing the role of pastors or youth workers—they’re important partners in discipleship. But God’s primary plan has always been that parents would be on the front lines, guiding their children’s hearts toward Jesus.
Every conversation about forgiveness, every prayer whispered at bedtime, every small lesson about kindness and grace—these moments are sacred. They’re seeds of faith being planted deep within your child’s heart. God intentionally chose you to do this important work because He knew you’d do it from a place of genuine love and care.
This week, start small. Share just one truth about Jesus with your children. Tell them about His kindness toward the hurting, His patience when we mess up, or His joy in being with us. It doesn’t have to be elaborate—simply share from your heart.
God chose you, parents, and He promises you won’t walk this journey alone. He’ll be right there with you, empowering and encouraging you as you faithfully share the gospel with the children you love more than anything else in the world.
