Week 10: Wednesday Discipleship Guide

  • Isaiah 48:9-11

    “For my name's sake I defer my anger;
        for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you,
        that I may not cut you off.
    Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver;
        I have tried you in the furnace of affliction.
    For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it,
        for how should my name be profaned?
        My glory I will not give to another.

  • Jeremiah 9:23-24

    Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.”

  • Answer: What is the root of Babel?

    Question: Pride that tries to make a name apart from God. The gospel declares that identity is received in Christ, not built by human achievement.

  • Genesis 11:9

    “Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth…”
