Two Legs, One Journey: Sundays and GCs Together

Together Thursday #2

Ever tried walking a long distance on just one leg? You might manage a few hops, but it’s not a sustainable or comfortable way to get around. The same goes for following Jesus with only a Sunday gathering or only a Gospel Community. At Redeemer, we believe these two realities—Sunday worship and Gospel Communities—work like two legs carrying us toward a deeper, “ALL of Christ, for ALL of life” faith.

Sunday worship is our weekly anchor. We gather as a larger family to lift high the name of Jesus, hear the Word preached, pray together, and share in worship elements like communion. It’s a time to refocus, be refreshed, and collectively exalt Christ. Yet, if we stop there, we’re doing the “one-leg hop,” missing out on the daily application and intimate fellowship that truly grows us.

That’s where Gospel Communities (GCs) come in. They help us live out what we celebrate on Sunday. Picture a smaller circle of friends who discuss Scripture, pray for one another’s real-life challenges, and laugh together over a meal. This is where we walk out our faith in the nitty-gritty details of life—jobs, parenting, heartbreaks, and victories. It’s the second leg, offering balance and forward movement in our discipleship journey.

The Bible underscores this need for ongoing fellowship. Hebrews 10:24 says, “Stir up one another to love and good works.” A sermon can inspire you, but the encouragement, accountability, and shared tears or laughter come best in a smaller group that knows you well. And as we engage both Sunday worship and GCs, we experience family—not just a crowd. Together, they steady us and keep us from spiritual imbalance, forging a disciple-making culture that fits Redeemer’s heart: “We make much of Jesus in all of life.”

“Stir up one another to love and good works.”
(Hebrews 10:24)

Takeaway:
Ask yourself, “Am I hopping along on one leg—just Sunday or just GC—when I need both?” Pair your Sunday with a Gospel Community, and feel the difference it makes in your weekly walk with Christ.

Remember, it’s Jesus who steadies us. He designed us for communal worship and life-on-life fellowship, knowing we can’t do this alone. Both rhythms lead us to Him, and together, we learn to walk in His grace and power every day.
