Serving as Worship Beyond Sundays

Worship Wednesday #10

Ever pause to realize that worship isn’t just singing on Sunday? It also includes giving our time, resources, and hearts for God’s mission. At Redeemer, we believe serving is an essential act of worship—one that echoes Jesus’ own example. In Mark 10:45, He says, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve.” That’s a radical statement: the King of kings chose to lay down His life for others, calling us to do the same.

We often talk about giving at Redeemer—offering our financial resources cheerfully and sacrificially (see 2 Corinthians 8–9)—as part of worship. But it doesn’t stop with finances. James 2:14–17 challenges us that faith without works is dead. Putting that into action, many in our church volunteer in various roles: hospitality, kids’ ministry, worship team, setup/teardown, and more. Through these hands-on acts of love, we’re “expanding the kingdom of God together.”

So how does this connect to being a Gospel-Centered, Disciple-Making Family? First, we believe the gospel not only saves us but transforms us to serve like Jesus—freely, joyfully, and without seeking personal gain. Second, our structure supports this culture: Deacons guide and model caring service (p. “Deacons of the Church”), ensuring everyone in need is prayed for and cared for. Meanwhile, Covenant Partners (members) engage wholeheartedly, knowing that Sunday worship is just the tip of the iceberg—we want to live our worship throughout the week.

At Redeemer, we also speak of Everyday Discipleship—the idea that worship spills into all spheres of life. Whether you’re greeting someone at the door, leading a Gospel Community study, or serving outside the church in your neighborhood, each act can exalt Jesus. It’s not about being busy; it’s about letting His love flow through you, so others see Christ’s compassion firsthand. It’s a rhythm of offering up your daily life as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1).

Call to Action:
If you’re not yet serving, ask God to show you where your gifts align with Redeemer’s needs. Maybe you have a knack for welcoming guests or a heart for teaching children. Reach out to a deacon or staff member, or check the volunteer opportunities we highlight periodically. Pray, “Lord, how can I reflect Your heart through serving?”

Final Encouragement:
Remember, worship goes far beyond a single Sunday setlist. Every time you help set up chairs, greet someone new, or give to support God’s work, you’re declaring the worth of Christ. Let’s continue loving like Him, confident that our service is a powerful testimony of the gospel we proclaim—every day, in every corner of life.
