Serving with Joy: as Redeemer Church

Greetings Redeemer Church Family!

I'm excited to share with you the new changes happening with our service teams at Redeemer Church. In serving, we experience the truth that “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35 ESV), and we’ve been purposeful in organizing our volunteer roles to maximize that blessing for each person involved.

We’ve made some strategic adjustments to our serving schedule and structure to encourage and bless our church family:

1) Serving Frequency:

Every covenant partner at Redeemer should expect to serve in some capacity every week. We are the church. While this may seem demanding, it's actually liberating. By serving regularly, you'll find that your gifts demonstrate the love and commitment we have for God and each other. We're calling everyone to embrace this regularity with the expectation to serve frequently, yet with a variety of opportunities, so that each week's service is a joy rather than a strain.

2) The Set-Up Team and "Wait for it!" the Teardown Team:

Two teams! We've refined the setup and teardown processes to minimize exhaustion and maximize focus. For those with a heart for hospitality, hard work, and preparation, these teams are your opportunity to contribute to our worship experience.

3) The Band:

After leading us in worship, our musicians are free to pack up their instruments and spend time investing in relationships within the church. No more teardown duties for you—just pure ministry, both on stage and off.

4) Multiple Roles:

Our streamlined service roles now offer the chance to wear multiple hats on a Sunday. You might greet newcomers as a hospitality leader and also contribute to creating a warm environment by setting up. Or you may read scripture in one service and assist with communion as well. This new structure is about embracing flexibility and celebrating the breadth of your service as an offering to God.

Finding Your Best Fit in Service

Whether it’s engaging with our youngest members in Redeemer Kids, sharing in the sacred act of facilitating communion, or supporting the church’s physical setup, there’s a place for everyone to serve. Our goal is for you to find a role that not only uses your unique gifts but also fills you with joy.

While setup and teardown are critical tasks, we don’t want them to be a chore but a calling where you feel you’re contributing to our worship in a meaningful way. For those of you still searching for where you might best contribute, Jennifer, our new pastoral assistant, is ready to guide you towards a service area that resonates with your passion and skills. And should your service ever feel overwhelming, know that Davis, Olivia, and I are here to support you and ensure your service remains a blessing, not a burden.

Why We Serve

Our willingness to serve in various capacities comes from a heart that understands Christ’s example, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45 ESV). Each opportunity to serve is an act of worship and obedience to the Lord, reflecting His generous nature through our actions.

Let’s Serve Together

So, Redeemer family, let’s step into this season of service with excitement and readiness. Be aware that when you serve, you’re part of a robust fellowship of faith that exemplifies Christ’s love to the world. Your service weaves into the strong fabric of our church’s mission, displaying the courage and resilience of His love in every act.

Final Thought:

As we serve in unity, we echo the unity of the body of Christ, where “God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another” (1 Corinthians 12:24-25 ESV). Each time you serve, no matter the capacity, you are playing an integral role in our mission to be a Gospel-Centered Disciple-Making Family.

“Serving God’s purpose in our generation,” (Acts 13:36)

Warmly in Christ,

Cody McMurray, Lead Pastor
