Lord of Rest: Jesus Takes Charge

Sabbath Saturday #2

Ever feel like rest is just another rule you can’t quite keep? Maybe you’ve tried carving out a day off, only to end up more stressed about relaxing the “right way” than you were about your workload. Here’s the good news: Jesus is Lord of rest, and He’s not here to burden you—He’s here to set you free.

In Matthew 12:8, Jesus makes this crystal clear:

“The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

What does this mean for us? It means rest isn’t primarily about rules, days, or schedules—it's about a Person. Jesus doesn’t merely give us a day off; He invites us into His presence, where rest is always available. As Lord of the Sabbath, Jesus shows us rest isn’t something we achieve or fail to achieve—it’s something we receive freely in Him.

Think about it this way: Jesus healed and restored lives on the Sabbath, demonstrating that true rest is more about His compassion than our compliance. He didn't come to weigh us down with another expectation; He came to lift burdens from weary hearts.

So today, don’t worry about perfectly planning your rest. Instead, simply let Jesus take charge of just one thing you’re carrying. Trust His leadership. Let His presence quiet your anxiety, calm your fears, and renew your strength.

Tomorrow is Sunday—a day to joyfully worship and celebrate. Trust Jesus today to lead your heart to genuine rest, preparing you to gather with peace and praise.

Jesus runs rest, and He’s running it perfectly. Let Him take charge, and get ready to praise Him tomorrow.
