Heads, Hearts, Hands, Habits: How GCs Bring Sunday Home

Together Thursday #7

What if Sunday’s message didn’t stop at the pew?

If we’re honest, it’s easy to nod along with Sunday’s sermon only to find ourselves unchanged by midweek. At Redeemer, Gospel Communities (GCs) exist precisely because we believe sermons should impact more than our Sunday morning—they should reshape how we live all week long. It’s not just about taking notes; it’s about taking action together as family.

In GCs, we intentionally explore passages that deepen Sunday’s message. If we hear about grace on Sunday (like Romans 6), we might gather midweek to look at how God’s grace compels obedience (think Joshua 24). Our conversations center around four simple yet transformative questions:

  • Heads: What do we learn about Jesus from this passage?

  • Hearts: How does this truth move or convict us?

  • Hands: What practical steps can we take to live this out?

  • Habits: How can we keep these truths alive in our daily rhythms?

Hebrews 12:2 urges us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, “the founder and perfecter of our faith.” At Redeemer, this is what we’re after in every GC meeting—real discipleship, practical application, lasting transformation. We don’t want the gospel to be a theory; we want it to shape every part of our lives—heads, hearts, hands, and habits.

Imagine the change: Instead of simply hearing about forgiving others, your GC encourages you to reconcile with someone you’ve been avoiding. Rather than only hearing about generosity, you commit to sacrificially serving someone in your community. This isn’t just talk; it’s genuine life-change, family-style. It’s Jesus magnified in our everyday lives.

Takeaway:
Pick just one truth from this Sunday’s sermon to actively live out. Share it with your GC this week—celebrate the victories, support one another in the challenges, and watch how Jesus transforms you together.

Jesus doesn’t leave us where we are. He patiently transforms us step by step—and our Gospel Communities are here to help each other walk that journey, every day of the week.
