Faith, Not Work: Entering His Rest
Sabbath Saturday #3
Ever feel exhausted from trying to measure up? Whether it’s being the perfect parent, a flawless employee, or the always-available friend, constantly striving to be enough is draining. But what if real rest had nothing to do with how much you do, and everything to do with how much you trust?
Hebrews 4:9 invites us into a radically different way to rest:
“There remains a Sabbath-rest for the people of God.”
Notice, it doesn’t say, “there remains a checklist” or “there remains a to-do list.” Instead, Scripture promises a Sabbath-rest—a deep, soul-level peace found by trusting in Jesus rather than our own efforts.
This isn’t just another comforting idea; it builds on what we’ve seen the last two weeks. Jesus invited us to Himself, the source of rest (Matt. 11:28). He reminded us that He, not a day or rule, is the Lord of rest (Matt. 12:8). Now we’re seeing clearly how we enter that rest: not by working harder, but by placing our full trust in Him.
Resting in Christ means acknowledging we aren’t enough—but He is. It’s embracing the truth that Jesus has already finished the work that matters most. He’s paid for your sins, secured your acceptance, and guaranteed your future. Today, He simply invites you to trust Him with the rest.
This Sabbath Saturday, let go of one task you feel you “must” do to measure up. Hand it over to Jesus, trusting Him to carry it far better than you ever could. As you do, you’ll find rest not just for today, but strength and joy for tomorrow’s worship.
Jesus has opened the door to real rest. Enter by faith today—and find joy waiting for you tomorrow.
