Deacon Nomination Process:
-
This nomination comes from your Gospel Community, who has observed your commitment to discipleship practices, such as your devotion to the Word, the mission of God, and prayer. These core character attributes align with what we call a 3-2-1 lifestyle— or a healthy, vibrant disciple-making lifestyle at Redeemer Church for our deacons.
-
An example of the 3-2-1 lifestyle consists of:
-3 hours with the Lord each week: Deepening your relationship with Jesus through dedicated time in Scripture, worship, and devotion.
-2 hours in the Harvest each week: Intentionally engaging with Covenant Partners, Gospel Friends, and those far from God to share the gospel and make disciples.
-1 hour in prayer for our disciple-making endeavors: Praying for the Redeemer Church family, Wichita Falls, those in our sphere of influence, and the advancement of the gospel message.
-
Your Nomination as a Deacon
Your nomination for the role of a deacon at Redeemer Church is an acknowledgment of your existing commitment to these practices and your Christlike character. It is not a request for you to take on additional responsibilities but a recognition of the spiritual devotion and character you have already demonstrated.
Confirming Your Readiness
As part of the nomination process, you have the opportunity to confirm the observations made by your Gospel Community, ensuring you are ready to assume the role of a deacon according to the teachings of the Bible and the values of Redeemer Church.
-
Purpose of the Survey
Following your nomination, we invite you to complete the Nomination Survey. This assessment is designed to help us understand your self-perception of spiritual maturity, alignment with Redeemer Church's values, and readiness to serve as a deacon or deaconess.
Biblical Foundation
The survey is based on the qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:8-13, which serve as a guide for identifying suitable candidates for the role of deacon or deaconess at Redeemer Church.
-
Purpose of the Alignment Check
As part of the nomination process, we kindly ask nominees to assess whether they are in harmony with our church's theological vision, mission, and primary theological perspectives. The alignment check ensures that nominees are prepared to support and enhance our current disciple-making efforts, contributing to the clarity and edification of our church body.
Affirming Commitment
By embracing the role of a deacon, you affirm your commitment to our mission, strategies, and theological foundations. As a deacon, you will help strengthen and refine these elements as we grow together in Christ.
-
Objective of the Q & A Session
Nominees engage in a Q & A session with a staff member or current deacon, which serves to:
-Allow nominees to ask questions about the deacon role and responsibilities
-Gain insights into what it means to serve as a deacon
-Better understand the expectations and commitment involved in this role
-
Purpose of the Core Team Immersion
During this six-week period, nominees are warmly welcomed into the Deacon Core Team, a vibrant group of passionate covenant partners who embody Redeemer's values. The immersion experience is designed to help nominees:
-Integrate into the team
-Become familiar with the various aspects of a deacon's role
-Learn how to shape the culture of Redeemer Church as a Gospel-centered, disciple-making family
-
After the six-week Core Team immersion period, the nominee is presented to the larger church community for consideration and input, encouraging communal discernment and accountability in selecting deacons.
-
Following six additional weeks of evaluation, if approved, the nominee is officially commissioned as a deacon or deaconess on Sunday morning at Redeemer Church. Serving in their roles for one-year terms, deacons and deaconesses contribute their unique gifts and abilities to further the mission and vision of Redeemer Church.
